Why Do Construction Projects Go Over Budget?

Construction projects rarely go over budget because of a single issue. More often, it's the result of multiple small problems that develop throughout the design and construction process. One of the biggest contributors is poor coordination between the design disciplines before work begins on site.

When mechanical, electrical, public health and architectural designs aren't properly coordinated, clashes are often discovered during construction rather than during design. These issues can lead to redesigns, programme delays, additional labour, material waste and costly variations.

Good MEP coordination helps identify potential conflicts early, allowing the project team to resolve problems before they impact the programme. Investing time in coordinated design at the beginning of a project is almost always more cost-effective than solving problems once construction is underway.
